With just a few terminal commands you can perform tasks on your Mac without a single mouse click and unlock hidden abilities within your operating system.

WARNING: INCORRECT USE OF TERMINAL COMMANDS CAN CAUSE MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM - USE WISELY - DON'T ATTEMPT THESE COMMANDS ON A MISSION-CRITICAL MAC.

Talking Mac
say hello world!

Read a txt file aloud (replace FILENAME.txt with the name of the file you want to be read
say -o audio.aiff -f FILENAME.txt

Enable Airdop on older Macs
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser BrowseAllInterfaces -bool TRUE

Show hidden files and folders
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool TRUE

Install software updates
sudo softwareupdate -l

Display a custom message at login
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow LoginwindowText "Hey, Sticky Hands!"

Download a file without a web browser
